7-Year-Old Moultonborough Central Student Warms Community by Handcrafting Care Packages for ICU Patients at Concord Hospital-Laconia
Concord Hospital-Laconia is proud to celebrate the selfless, heartwarming contributions of 7-year-old Evelyn “Evie” Rowell, who personally created over a dozen care packages for ICU patients on Wednesday, April 16.

Evie, a second-grader at Moultonborough Central School, won a $100 gift card at a Chaos and Kindness event with the challenge to “Do something nice for someone.” Determined to help her community, Evie created handmade cards, personalized bags and bright, cheery pinwheels for 15 ICU patients. Evie assembled and delivered all 15 gift bags along with snacks and goodies for the hardworking Concord Hospital-Laconia ICU nurses.
“Evie’s act of kindness is a reminder of how fortunate we are to serve the people of the Lakes Region,” said Concord Hospital Health System President and CEO Robert P Steigmeyer. “This selfless deed reminded our critical-care patients that their community is behind them and showed our staff how deeply their life-saving work matters to our region.”
Kylee Rowell, an Oncology Department nurse at Concord Hospital-Laconia, is Evie’s aunt and supported the second-grader’s charitable efforts. “All too often, we see patients go without visits from friends or loved ones, and that breaks our hearts,” said Rowell. “Evie’s inspiring act brought hope to patients and staff alike at the hospital. I could not be more proud to be Evie’s aunt.”
When asked why Evie did this for 15 ICU patients, she simply replied, “Because they don’t always have family.”
