Concord Hospital Celebrates 30 Years of the NH Dartmouth Family Medicine Residency Program at Open House

Concord Hospital (CH) hosted an open house on November 20 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the New Hampshire Dartmouth Family Medicine Residency (NHDFMR), a nationally recognized, community-based training program that has shaped the landscape of primary care in New Hampshire for three decades.

Throughout the evening, speakers emphasized the residency’s role in addressing New Hampshire’s persistent primary care shortages and rising community health needs.

“This anniversary is not just a milestone for the residency. It is a celebration of thirty years of service, education, and commitment to the people of New Hampshire,” said Dr. Michael McLeod, who shared his experience as both a program graduate and current CH associate chief clinical officer of family medicine. “At a time when primary care shortages and access challenges are impacting every community, programs like NHDFMR are more essential than ever. Our graduates become the backbone of health care in this region.”

Residents train primarily at Concord Hospital’s Family Health Centers in Concord and Hillsboro—key safety-net providers that offer comprehensive care regardless of insurance status or ability to pay. Over 30 years, more than 200 physicians have completed the program, many of whom remain in New England.

Founded in 1995 with the support of Dr. Daniel Eubank and former CH President and CEO Michael Green, NHDFMR was built to provide comprehensive, team-based care to patients of all ages, particularly those in underserved and vulnerable populations. Its mission has remained constant:

  • Train physicians to serve and lead across healthcare systems;
  • Provide barrier-free, whole-person care;
  • Improve access to high-quality primary care for all community members.

Dr. McLeod noted that the residency’s integrated behavioral health model, emphasis on whole-person care, and commitment to vulnerable populations remain foundational to its approach.

“The program’s founders created a model that blends medical excellence with compassion and community connection,” Dr. McLeod said. “That legacy is still alive today and stronger than ever. We are looking ahead to the next thirty years with tremendous pride and excitement.”

Concord Hospital Trust capped the event with the announcement of a meaningful new philanthropic commitment in honor of the residency’s 30th anniversary. Longtime supporters Drs. Suzie and Phil Boulter have stepped forward with a leadership gift to launch a new fundraising initiative dedicated to strengthening the residency program.

The Boulters—who have devoted many years of service, mentorship, and advocacy to advancing medical education at Concord Hospital—are helping ensure the program’s continued growth. Their generosity will support enhanced educational opportunities, leadership development, and ongoing training resources for both residents and faculty.
