Concord Hospital Payson Center for Care's Rock ‘N Race 2020: 6FT to 5K
With a huge boost from its founding donors, Norm and Melinda Payson, Concord Hospital Payson Center for Cancer Care’s annual Rock ‘N Race has gone virtual — and supporters have the opportunity to double the value of their own generous donations.
The Paysons were a driving force when the Payson Center was established and have been loyal supporters ever since. This year, as the COVID-19 pandemic stresses the Payson Center and its patients, they have committed through their private foundation to match what Rock ‘N Race participants raise — dollar for dollar, up to $150,000.
“Melinda and I know how important the programs and services at the HOPE Resource Center are for those with cancer and their families,” said Dr. Payson. “Like others in the Capital Region, we want to assure that they are available to help people in the coming year. The Rock ‘N Race does that.”
Payson Center is asking supporters to ‘Go the Social Distance’ for its HOPE Resource Center in Rock ‘N Race 2020: 6FT to 5K.
This year, instead of thousands gathering at the Statehouse to walk or run 5K through Concord, participants will raise crucial funds throughout the month of June, at their own pace on their own course.
The Rock ‘N Race provides 50 percent of annual funding for the HOPE Resource Center, supporting more than 1,000 patients a year with programs and services that include social work, nutritional counseling, complementary therapies and funds for out-of-pocket expenses — all at no cost to patients.
“Volunteers and Trust staff are working hard to create a memorable virtual Race,” said Pamela Puleo, chief advancement officer. “Their commitment and energy are to assure that Concord Hospital has the funds needed to sustain programs and services for people with cancer and their families.”
The Race Committee is encouraging participants to form teams and ask family and friends to support their fundraising, then walk or run together during June — using proper social distancing guidelines.
Since 2003, Rock ‘N Race, presented by Merrimack County Savings Bank, has raised more than $3.5 million dollars for Payson Center.
