Lights, Camera, Action
Some new patients at Concord Hospital Center for Urologic Care are receiving a piece of green paper in their information packet. It’s not a prescription — it’s more of a recommendation that they watch TV for more information about certain conditions.
Dr. Ronald Yap produced a monthly series for Concord TV’s public access channel in 2017. The program, the Dr. Ronald Yap Show, is being watched all over the world, thanks to YouTube. In the 11 episodes, Dr. Yap and colleagues speak in laymen’s terms as they address common urologic issues such as prostate health, prostate cancer, vasectomy, and bladder cancer.
“It’s a new way to reach people,” he said. “And with YouTube, anybody in the world can download the programs and be educated or follow their health.”
Patients can learn about sensitive medical issues at home or review information they might not have understood in an appointment. Dr. Yap said the programs also have been helpful with new patients or those seeing him with new medical issues.
“They say they felt like we’ve already met,” he said, “like they’ve already had a free consultation.”
