CenteringPregnancy Program

CenteringPregnancy® offers an exciting approach to prenatal care by bringing you out of exam rooms and into a group setting. There you take an active role in your care by learning about pregnancy, birthing and parenting with the support of other expecting couples and the expertise of a family medicine physician.

You have your initial intake into your maternity care in the traditional manner with a history and physical examination occurring in the office setting. Then you meet for 10 ninety-minute group sessions during your pregnancy and through the early postpartum period. You develop a support system and friendships that extend well into the child rearing years.

Assessments

Group assessments include:

  • Fetal heart tones;
  • Fetal position;
  • Mom and baby well-being;
  • Blood pressure;
  • Weight.

Education

During group sessions, you learn and talk about:

  • Self-care;
  • Exercise, relaxation and stress management;
  • Nutrition;
  • Childbirth preparation.

Support

As a result of the group sessions, you will:

  • Spend more time with the healthcare provider;
  • Meet other pregnant women and couples;
  • Develop friendships;
  • Have fun.
