CenteringPregnancy® offers an exciting approach to prenatal care by bringing you out of exam rooms and into a group setting. There you take an active role in your care by learning about pregnancy, birthing and parenting with the support of other expecting couples and the expertise of a family medicine physician.
You have your initial intake into your maternity care in the traditional manner with a history and physical examination occurring in the office setting. Then you meet for 10 ninety-minute group sessions during your pregnancy and through the early postpartum period. You develop a support system and friendships that extend well into the child rearing years.
Group assessments include:
- Fetal heart tones;
- Fetal position;
- Mom and baby well-being;
- Blood pressure;
During group sessions, you learn and talk about:
- Exercise, relaxation and stress management;
- Childbirth preparation.
As a result of the group sessions, you will:
- Spend more time with the healthcare provider;
- Meet other pregnant women and couples;
- Develop friendships;
- Have fun.
