The radiology department at Concord Hospital provides comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic imaging services. In addition to using radiant energy like that emitted by traditional X-ray machines, our board-certified radiologists and technologists use a variety of other medical imaging systems.

Procedures Performed or Problems Diagnosed and Treated:

  • Angiography/venography (X-rays of vasculature)
  • Calcium scoring
  • CT scan (computed tomography scan)
  • Gastrointestinal procedures (upper GI, barium enema, etc.)
  • Genitourinary procedures (intravenous urogram, cystogram, etc.)
  • Interventional radiology (needle biopsies, angioplasty, stent placement, etc.)
  • Mammography
  • MRI (magnetic resonance imaging)
  • Needle localization breast biopsies and ductography
  • Nuclear medicine
  • PET scan (positron emission tomography scan)
  • Radiography (X-rays)
  • Ultrasound

Why Choose Concord Hospital?

Our radiology department is equipped with a picture archiving communication system, or PACS, which digitally captures, transmits and stores X-rays, eliminating the need for film. Electronic archiving of patient X-rays creates a more timely and efficient system for analyzing important patient information and sharing data and resources with consulting physicians.

Cardiac calcium scoring, a safe, painless, noninvasive and accurate test to determine coronary artery content, is offered through the hospital’s radiology department and Concord Imaging Center. PET scans are also available. PET scans can help physicians detect alterations in biochemical processes that suggest disease before changes in anatomy are apparent on other imaging tests.

Concord Hospital offers several MRI machines on campus. A high-field, open MRI is housed at Concord Imaging Center in the Pillsbury Medical Office Building. (Pictured at the top of this page.) This high-field, open unit provides a more comfortable experience for claustrophobic or extremely overweight patients and children. This machine is the only one of its kind in northern New England. Traditional MRI scanners are available at the hospital and at Concord Imaging Center's satellite office located at Horseshoe Pond.

Radiography (X-ray) rooms are available within the emergency department. Each room has X-ray machines that produce high-quality images for quick diagnosis. X-rays are captured with state-of-the-art digital technology.
