Why Choose Concord Hospital?
A multidisciplinary team of social workers, dietitians, pharmacists, quality assurance professionals, pediatric nurses and doctors bring a variety of skills to the pediatric/young adult unit that ensure patients receive high quality, comprehensive health care.
We offer a Short Pediatric Observation and Treatment (SPOT) Program for children who need prolonged medical care, observation or additional treatment before returning home. Nestled in the Pediatric Unit, there is a family kitchen and a playroom with lots of activities to assist patients and their families. The SPOT program is staffed by a multi-disciplinary team that provides high quality, efficient, child and family-centered care.
The unit incorporates the family-centered care philosophy into every aspect of its clinical practice. At the heart of family-centered care is the belief that healthcare providers and the family are partners, working together to best meet the child’s needs. The Family Place’s professional nursing staff incorporates families into the plan of care and is committed to this collaboration. Additionally, the staff supports families by respecting their decisions; offering comfort as they cope with the child's illness; meeting the social, developmental and emotional needs of the child; and fostering family members' confidence in their ability to care for their child.
Concord Hospital's innovative child life services program provides critical support for children and their families to reduce stress and enhance coping skills while at the hospital. Comforting families and giving them access to a trained child development specialist is a critical component of the program. The child life services program empowers families to help them take an active role in their child's care.
The pediatric/young adult unit also practices principles of atraumatic care to eliminate or minimize emotional and physical stress children experience during their stay. The following are available to pediatric/young adult patients:
- A playroom with games and toys
- Art supplies
- A laptop with educational programs
- A mini DVD player and age appropriate movies
- Therapeutic pet visits by certified therapy dogs
- A treatment room where laboratory tests, dressing changes and other procedures are performed so the child’s room remains a “safe place.”
Concord Hospital has one of the region’s most knowledgeable experts in pediatric orthopaedic surgery. Our pediatric team understands biological, social and environmental influences on the developing child and the impact of disease and dysfunction on development. This understanding allows them to provide the highest quality, compassionate care and support to patients and their families.
