Thoracic Oncology Program
Call your primary care provider for a referral.
Our comprehensive program provides diagnostic, treatment, rehabilitation and individualized care for adults diagnosed with lung, chest and esophageal cancers, as well as cancers of other organs in the chest wall.
Our board-certified and fellowship trained thoracic surgeons have expertise and specialized skills in minimally invasive thoracic surgical techniques. They collaborate with highly skilled physicians from various medical specialties including: medical oncology, radiation oncology, gastroenterology, pathology, pulmonary medicine and radiology to accurately diagnose and treat patients. The multidisciplinary team, including oncology dietitian and social worker, provide expert consultations and diagnostic evaluations, manage disease modifying therapies, and provide comprehensive symptom management.

Our thoracic nurse navigator is at the Center of our multidisciplinary team. This person's role is to help ensure patients obtain accurate diagnoses and appropriate treatments in a timely and efficient manner. Our nurse navigator also educates patients regarding their diagnoses, so they are able to make fully informed decisions about their care. Patients may access nurse navigator services as often as needed for support, information and assistance throughout the course of their treatment and beyond.
Our multidisciplinary thoracic tumor board meets twice a month to discuss cases that present diagnostic and treatment challenges. Any physician may present a case to the tumor board and receive expert advice from this collaborative group.
Minimally Invasive Surgery
da Vinci Surgical System
This revolutionary robotic surgical system enables surgeons to perform complex and delicate thoracic procedures through small incisions with exceptional precision. The benefits of thoracic surgery with the da Vinci Surgical System may include:
- Less pain, trauma, rib spreading and blood loss;
- Fewer transfusions;
- Less risk of infection and scarring;
- Shorter Hospital stay and recovery time.
As with any surgery, the risks and benefits should be discussed with your surgeon.
Video-Assisted Thoracic Surgery
This minimally invasive technique, to diagnose and treat problems of the chest, uses a small video camera that's introduced into the patient's chest through a scope. The camera enables surgeons to view the instruments that are being used along with the anatomy on which they are operating.
Your surgeon will help you decide if treatment using a minimally invasive approach is a viable surgical option for your condition.
