Concord Hospital Receives $5,000 Sponsorship from AARP New Hampshire

Concord Hospital Trust has received a $5,000 sponsorship from AARP New Hampshire to further the work of the Delirium Prevention Program at Concord Hospital. Since 2009, much work has been done to develop protocols and programs known to decrease the onset of delirium for hospitalized elders. Support from AARP will be used to enhance quality sleep through the Safe Sleep Protocol for patients at-risk of developing delirium.

At Concord Hospital, non-pharmacologic therapies form an important part of the evidence base for preventing and treating delirium. The Hospital has become a leader nationally in instituting holistic protocols which combine a well-orchestrated range of medical, nursing, rehabilitative and art therapy offerings for acutely ill older adults while they are in the hospital. In addition to the Safe Sleep Protocol, Therapeutic Arts and Activity Services staff provides Activities at the Bedside for Comfort and Diversion (ABCD), and specially-trained musicians provide therapeutic music at the bedside.

“AARP New Hampshire is pleased to partner with Concord Hospital on this important initiative, particularly given our focus on supporting caregivers and enabling New Hampshire residents to stay in their homes and communities as they age,” says Todd Fahey, AARP New Hampshire State Director.
