State Recognizes Concord Hospital Trauma Care and Treatment

Hospital Certified as Level II Trauma Center

After a rigorous review of its ability to treat patients with complex traumatic injuries, the State of New Hampshire has designated Concord Hospital as a Level II Trauma Center.

The designation certifies that Concord Hospital has the resources to provide a high level of care for patients with a wide range of injuries. It is the second highest in the state’s four-level certification process. Hospitals certified as Level II Trauma Centers have surgical specialty providers on-call and promptly available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The state recognized that Concord Hospital provides definitive care as a regional healthcare facility for complex trauma patients.

Dr. David Green, Concord Hospital’s Chief Medical Officer, said the Hospital’s Trauma program, led by Dr. Richard Murphy and Mary Reidy, RN, successfully completed an extensive state review in May. The survey included more than 100 specific factors designed to evaluate the Hospital’s ability to respond to patients with a wide range of traumatic injuries as well as its trauma quality improvement activities.

“The state recognized the ability of general surgeons, neurosurgeons, orthopaedic surgeons, radiologists, our Emergency Department and other specialties to work well together and promptly respond to trauma patients' needs,” Dr. Green said. “The state also praised the training and dedication of nursing staff to meet the needs of our trauma patients.”

The commitment of the hospital’s radiology services department to provide access to interventional radiology and imaging studies such as MRIs and CT scans during off hours also led to a successful survey.

Concord Hospital also is one of only two hospitals in the state designated as a Level II Trauma Center. The recent state designation is another step toward achieving the more rigorous Level II national verification from the American College of Surgeons.
