Eligibility Requirements

Applicants with one of the following qualifications are eligible for appointment to accredited residency programs:

  1. 1.Graduates of medical schools in the United States and Canada accredited by either the Liaison Committee on Medical Education or the American (LCME) or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).

  2. Graduates of medical schools outside the United States and Canada who:
    1. Have a currently valid Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certificate or;
    2. Have a full and unrestricted medical license for a United States licensing jurisdiction and;
    3. Are a United States citizen or permanent resident of have possession of or the ability to obtain an ECFMG-sponsored J-1 visa and;
    4. Are fully competent in written and oral English;
    5. Have three months of U.S. clinical, hands-on training in an LCME-approved setting, done under supervision. Applications must include a letter of confirmation from the supervisor of this experience.

  3. Graduates of medical schools who have completed an LCME accredited Fifth Pathway Program.

  4. Candidates must also demonstrate commitment to, experience with and understanding of family medicine.

  5. Candidates must have a passing grade on all clinical clerkships completed in the third year of medical school.

  6. Candidates must be no greater than six years post graduation from medical school.

  7. Candidates must pass both Step 1 and Step 2 of the USMLE. Enrollment in the program requires passing both USMLE Step 2 Clinical Knowledge and Step 2 Clinical Skills, or COMLEX Level 2 and Physical Exam to obtain a training license in New Hampshire.

  8. Any candidate whose primary language is not English must pass the TOEFL Exam (Test of English as a Foreign Language), in order to demonstrate full competence in written and oral English.

  9. Candidates must submit at least three letters of reference with their applications to the program.

Our residency program, along with family practice residencies across the country, participates in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). If you are interested in applying to our program, please submit an application through ERAS. The application deadline for the 2010 Match is December 15, 2009. The application must include a medical school dean's letter, medical school transcripts, and three letters of recommendation.

We will review applications upon receipt and contact competitive candidates to schedule personal interviews, which are required for application to our training program. Our interviewing season begins in late October and runs through January. The interviews include an orientation to the program, tours, and interviews with faculty and residents.
